The Full Plan
You can't build great schools without great teachers — and you can't keep great teachers without treating them with respect. That means listening to their concerns, improving their working conditions, and making sure basic things like a decent lunch break are actually available to them.
LaSalle Parish, like many rural Louisiana districts, faces real challenges in recruiting and retaining quality educators. The solution isn't complicated: teachers stay where they feel respected, supported, and heard. Brandon is committed to being the board member who actually listens when teachers bring concerns forward.
One specific area Brandon has heard concern about is the school lunch program — particularly as it affects staff. Educators who work through lunch or eat the same meal options as students deserve better. This is a quality-of-life issue that sends a clear message about how much the district values its workforce.
Beyond lunch, Brandon will work to improve the overall working environment in Ward 9 schools by ensuring teachers have the materials they need, the administrative backup they deserve, and a voice in the decisions that shape their classrooms.
Specific Commitments
Reform the school lunch program. Brandon will push to improve meal quality and access — for students and staff alike — as a basic indicator of how much our district values the people inside its walls.
Regular teacher listening sessions. Brandon commits to holding open meetings specifically for Ward 9 educators to surface concerns directly, not through layers of administration.
Push for adequate classroom supplies. Teachers shouldn't spend their own money to stock their classrooms. Brandon will advocate for appropriate materials budgets at every school.
Protect planning and prep time. Effective teaching requires preparation. Brandon will work to ensure teacher schedules aren't overloaded with non-instructional duties that cut into their ability to plan great lessons.
